This Privacy Policy describes how Naturalize ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our mobile application ("App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

Summary

Naturalize uses Google Firebase services to store your data securely in the cloud and sync it across your devices. We collect only the information necessary to provide the app's functionality. We do not use analytics, advertising, or sell your data to third parties.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address (if using email/password authentication)
• Password (stored securely hashed by Firebase Authentication)
• Google account profile information (email, name, profile picture URL) if you sign in with Google

Immigration Tracking Data

To provide the app's core functionality, we collect and store:

• Family member profiles: Names, avatar images, green card dates, residence start dates, and citizenship track selection (5-year or 3-year)
• Trip records: Departure dates, return dates, destinations, countries visited, country transitions, and optional trip purposes
• Activity log: Records of actions you take within the app (creating, updating, or deleting records) for your reference

Automatically Collected Information

We automatically collect:

• Timestamps: When records are created or updated

Information Stored Only on Your Device

The following information is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to our servers:

• Notification preferences (enabled/disabled settings for reminders)
• Scheduled local notifications (managed by iOS)

How We Store Your Data

Your data is stored using Google Firebase services:

• Firebase Authentication: Manages your account credentials securely
• Firebase Firestore: Stores your family member profiles, trip records, and activity logs
• Firebase Storage: Stores profile avatar images you upload

All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS and encrypted at rest on Google's servers. Data is stored on servers located in the United States.

Third-Party Services

Naturalize uses the following third-party services:

Services We Do NOT Use

To protect your privacy, Naturalize does not use:

• Analytics services (no Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
• Advertising networks or ad tracking
• Crash reporting or diagnostic services
• Push notification services (we use local notifications only)
• Location tracking services

How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to:

• Provide the app's core functionality (tracking citizenship eligibility)
• Authenticate you and secure your account
• Sync your data across your devices
• Maintain an activity log for your reference

Note: Notifications are scheduled locally on your device using iOS's notification system. No notification data is transmitted to external servers.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties except as necessary to provide the service:

• Google/Firebase: Your data is shared with Google Firebase solely for storage and authentication purposes, subject to Google's privacy policies
• Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights

Data Retention

Your data is retained as follows:

• Account data: Retained until you delete your account
• Family member profiles and trip records: Retained until you delete them or delete your account
• Activity logs: Retained for the lifetime of your account

Your Rights and Choices

You have full control over your data:

• Access: View all your data within the app at any time
• Export: Export your data in JSON format from within the app
• Modification: Edit or update any information at any time
• Deletion: Delete individual family members, trips, or your entire account
• Notification preferences: Enable or disable reminders in the app settings

Account Deletion

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from within the app. This process:

• Deletes all your data from Firebase Firestore
• Deletes all your files from Firebase Storage
• Deletes your Firebase Authentication account

Account deletion requires an internet connection and cannot be undone.

Data Security

We implement security measures to protect your data:

• Encryption in transit: All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS
• Encryption at rest: Data is encrypted on Firebase servers
• Authentication required: All data access requires valid authentication
• User isolation: Firebase security rules ensure users can only access their own data
• Secure password storage: Passwords are hashed using industry-standard methods

Device Permissions

Naturalize may request the following device permissions:

• Camera: To take profile photos for family members (optional)
• Photo Library: To select existing photos for profiles (optional)
• Notifications: To send local reminders about eligibility dates (optional)
• Network Access: Required for cloud sync and authentication

All permissions are optional except network access, and you can change them in your device settings.

Children's Privacy

Naturalize is not intended for children under 13 years of age. The app is designed for adult green card holders tracking their path to U.S. citizenship. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

• Right to know: You can request information about the categories of personal information we collect and how we use it
• Right to delete: You can request deletion of your personal information
• Right to opt-out: You can opt out of the sale of personal information (note: we do not sell personal information)
• Right to non-discrimination: You will not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights

Categories of personal information we collect: Identifiers (email), personal records (immigration tracking data), and internet activity (timestamps).

We do not sell your personal information.

International Users

Naturalize is designed for use in the United States by green card holders. If you use the app from outside the United States, please be aware that your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States on Google Cloud servers. By using the app, you consent to this transfer.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the App or by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
